Hosting – Which Package?

[ 0 ] May 2, 2012

When it comes to websites, you need to factor in the type of hosting that a site will need. For a low trafficked site, or one that relies on nothing other than a clean interface, a low bandwidth will do just fine. Often, the way in which to measure how much you should consider for your site is to look at the top hosting companies – and look at their different packages.

For the type of site I mentioned about, usually you’ll find that the basic type of hosting package will more than suit. If you’re a small business with something to say, you’re fairly web savvy and know what you;re aiming for, something in the medium hosting level will suffice.

However, if you’re a large, media focused company, or one that’s developed from a popular consumer product or well trafficked keywords, you’re probably better to consider dedicated hosting, something that’s unique to your, your site and your business.

As an example, ad in order to give you some level of understanding, we’ll look at a couple of sites. The first one is all about promotes all kinds of fitness and diet related equipment codes and promo deals: bowflex coupon code, the second one is purely informational and almost everyone will have heard of it: online encyclopedia.

Now – the first site will probably manage quite well on a medium level of hosting. It’s a site that’s predominantly filled with content; lots of javascript and ad codes injected into the posts and pages. Otherwise it’s a clean site, easy to navigate around, with no heavy hitting media (such as images and video). And page load time is pretty darn quick.

However the second site is different altogether. First of all the content is based around UGC – user generated content. Which means hundreds if not thousands of users around the world can edit and/or create new pages. Much of the information on a given page is lengthy and detailed, with images strewn throughout the site.

In essence it’s an information repository, highly trafficked and can only be supported by dedicated servers. Lots of them. The bottom line is (then) that websites are individual, and if you think of them like houses – larger houses need larger foundations, you shouldn’t go far wrong when it comes to choosing the right level of hosting.
